Shawn Nye, Mark Hoch, and David Brunka Win Summer Bash at Lancaster

LANCASTER, NY (June 18, 2022) … Lancaster Motorplex hosted the annual Summer Bash this past Saturday night that saw 2021 Sportsman track champion, Shawn Nye, from Lancaster, NY return to victory lane for his first victory of the season. Mark Hoch from West Seneca, NY won the Street Stock main event. David Brunka from Cheektowaga, NY won his 10th career 4 Cylinder feature.

Joe Evans and Andy Jankowiak were on the front row for the 30-lap feature for the Sportsman, with Jankowiak taking the lead on the drop of the green flag. Chase Williams spun, in turn, one to bring out the race’s first caution on lap one. George Skora would take over second from Evans and would go after Jankowiak for the lead. Tony Carbone, Shawn Nye, Jake Lutz, and Joe Evans battled for positions inside the top five for the majority of the event. Chase Williams would spin in turn two to bring out the caution on lap 12, allowing Skora to restart on the outside of Jankowiak. Shawn Nye would take over third on the restart. The leaders would make contact, resulting in Jankowiak spinning down the back straightaway. Skora would go to the end of the longest line for the contact. The contact would allow Shawn Nye and John Barber to restart on the front row. The restart would turn to calamity as Jankowiak, Skora, and Chase Williams went three-wide with Williams pounding the front straightaway wall. Williams climbed out of his car under his own power. On the restart, Nye would take off in the lead ahead of Barber, Jake Lutz, Mark Pennell, and Tony Carbone racing in the top five. George Skora and Andy J worked their way back through the field to run in fifth and sixth respectively in the closing laps. The caution would wave with two laps remaining as Timmy Lewis, Joe Evans, and Bobby Hanel got together in turn three. Jankowiak would head to the pits with two laps remaining, ending his night. Shawn Nye would hold off Jake Lutz to score his first win of the season in his title defense.

Tommy Wentland and Tim Garlock were on the front row for the Street Stock feature, with Garlock showing the early advantage. Wentland would get around Chris Powers to regain the runner-up position on lap three. Nik Welshans would take over second on lap five and would go after race leader Garlock. Welshans would take over the lead on lap nine, with Mark Hoch, Dave Krawczyk, and Tim Welshans racing in the top five. Hoch would take the lead away from Welshans on lap 15, with Dave Krawczyk racing in third place and closing in. Hoch would go on to score the win.

Kyle Casper led from the drop of the green in the 4 Cylinder feature with Ryan Lent running in second place. Chris Deyoe Jr would take second away from Lent, as David Brunka and Charles Palmer raced inside the top five early on. Brunka would move into second on lap four and would start to reel in race leader Casper. Brunka would take over the lead on lap nine. Casper would spin in turn two to bring out the caution with two laps remaining. Brunka would hold off the field to score the win, his first of the season.

At all stock car events, the popular Big Wheel Races will be taking place during intermission. Kids aged 12 and under can sign up at the sign-up table located at the main gate each race night.

Stock Car Racing returns on Thursday, July 14 as the Sportsman, Street Stocks, and 4 Cylinders will be joined by the Mighty TQ Midgets. Practice will get underway at 5:30pm and racing will get underway at 7pm.
