Jankowiak, Novoa, Dieter, and Deyoe Win on Opening Day at Lancaster

LANCASTER, N.Y. (May 17, 2026) – Second generation driver Andy Jankowiak from Tonawanda, NY returned home on Sunday afternoon and lead wire to wire to pick up the victory in the Sportsman main event at Lancaster Motorplex. Dustin Novoa from Springville, NY won the Street Stock main event. Jason Dieter from Lakeview, NY won the Super Stock main event. Chris Deyoe Jr from East Otto, NY won the 4 Cylinder main event.

John Barber and Andy Jankowiak were on the front row for the Sportsman feature, with Jankowiak taking the lead. George Skora III would quickly move up and into second on lap five. Shawn Nye would move into third place, followed by Timmy and Tyler Catalano. Andrew Nye spun coming off turn two to bring out the races’ first caution on lap 17. On the restart, Jankowiak, Skora, Shawn Nye would take off away from the rest of the field. After a lap 26 caution bunched the field back up, Jankowiak would once again take command of the field and he would go on to earn his 33rd career Sportsman victory, two behind all-time divisional leader Kirk Rutherford.

Chris Handley and Kyle Schosek shared the front row for the Street Stock main event, with Handley in the lead ahead of Mitch Friend. Tim Garlock would work his way to the lead on lap two, with Dustin Novoa and Nathan Bryant moving into podium positions early. Novoa would take the lead away on lap five, with Nathan Bryant taking over second place just one lap later. With Novoa and Bryant out front, the race was on behind them as Dan Dressel, Tim Garlock, and Mark Hoch raced inside the top five. Following a lap 18 restart, Dan Dressel and Mark Hoch were both able to pass Bryant to move into second and third respectively. Hoch would pass Dressel taking over second place. Nathan Bryant spun in turn three to bring out the caution on lap 22. The final three laps would see Novoa holding off Hoch to score the win.

Brian Hallett and Tim Faro were on the front row for the Super Stock feature, with Hallett taking over the lead. Jason Dieter would take second away, with Ryan Lagoda moving into third on lap two. Dieter would use lap traffic to his advantage to take the lead away on lap seven. With Dieter in the lead, Brian Hallett and Ryan Lagoda continued to race in second and third, followed by outside pole sitter Tim Faro. Dieter would drive away to earn the win over Hallett and Lagoda.

John Byrd and Ashton Hannon brought the 4 Cylinders to the green flag for their main event, with Hannon quickly jumping into the early race lead. Ryan Hessler worked his way to second, with Ben Adams following in third place. Deyoe would pass Adams to take over third on lap five and then would battle Hessler for second. Deyoe would eventually take over the lead on lap eight and never looked back to earn the victory.

Stock car racing continues at Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday, May 23 as the Tour-Type Modifieds will be headlining the show with a 50-lap event and the Sportsman will also be racing a 50-lap event. They will be joined by the Mighty TQ Midgets in their first appearance in 2026 and the 4 Cylinders. Pit gates will open at 2pm, with grandstands opening at 4pm, and racing will begin at 6pm.
