Paulie Hartwig III Wins Ol' Boy Cup X at Lancaster; Catalano, Schulz, and Bryant Pick Up Wins
LANCASTER, N.Y. (July 2, 2026) – Paulie Hartwig III from Galloway, New Jersey was victorious in the Ol’ Boy Cup 60 for the Race of Champions Modified Series at Lancaster Motorplex on Thursday night. Trevor Catalano from Ontario, NY picked up his first Sportsman win of the season. Third generation driver Jacob Schulz from Lockport, NY won the Mighty TQ Midgets Legends Night race. Nathan Bryant from East Aurora, NY won the Street Stock main event.
Jayden Harman and Jake Lutz brought the field of Race of Champions Modifieds to the green flag for the 10th running of the Ol’ Boy Cup 60 with fourth place starting Paulie Hartwig III taking the lead at the end of the opening lap, ahead of Lutz, Patrick Emerling, Harman, and Austin Kochenash racing in the top five. Kochenash would take fourth away from Harman on lap five, with Mike Leaty reeling them in. After passing Harman on lap eight, Leaty would take fourth away from Kochenash on lap 11, as the top three started to pull away from the field. Also moving up through the field over the first 1/3rd of the race were former Lancaster Sportsman Rookie of the Year Jake Christman and “Big Money” Matt Hirschman, racing in sixth and seventh respectively. Hartwig would continue to lead at the halfway mark, with Lutz and Emerling in tow. The battle with Christman and Hirschman was the closest on the track, with Hirschman moving into the sixth position on lap 37 and would go after Kochenash for fifth place. Hirschman would enter the top five on lap 43. Mike Leaty would catch Patrick Emerling for third place while encountering lap traffic, with Leaty completing the pass on lap 48. Hartwig was in complete control of the race all night long, leading wire to wire to score his first Lancaster victory.
Tony Carbone and Cory Grenzy were on the front row for the Sportsman feature, with Carbone in the lead. The caution would come out as Tommy Catalano spun in turn four. The initial restart would see Carbone in the lead ahead of John Barber, with Mason Hanel, Trevor Catalano, and Cory Grenzy racing in the top five. After a Carson Kelchlin spin in turn two on lap nine, Trevor Catalano would take over second on lap 11 and would apply the pressure to Carbone following the restart. Jake Vernon would enter the top five on lap 12 and would take fourth away from Hanel on lap 13. Trevor would take the lead away on lap 14 with brother Tyler moving into second place. Shawn Nye would enter the top five on lap 17, just has Hanel passed Vernon for fourth. The field would get bunched up on lap 27 for a debris caution in turn three. Nye would pass Carbone for fourth place on lap 29, as Trevor Catalano started to pull away from the field. Trevor would go on to win his third career Lancaster Sportsman victory.
Troyer Catalano and Nik Welshans were on the front row for the Street Stocks feature, with Welshans quickly taking the lead away. Nathan Bryant would move into second on lap three and on lap seven would take over the race lead. Mark Hoch and Dustin Novoa battled through the field and entered the top five, with Hoch moving into third on lap 11, and passing Nik Welshans for second place eon lap 13. The caution would come out on lap 15 as Dan Dressel went up in smoke in his 09, with fluid dropping on the racetrack. The restart would see Bryant and Hoch pull away from the field. Bryant would hold off Hoch to score the feature win.
Jacob Schulz and Nick Groff were on the front row for the Mighty TQ Midgets Legends Night event, with Schulz in the lead ahead of Groff, Jeff Chapman, Mark Schulz, and Brian Schulz. The races’ first caution would come out on lap five as Jenson Cook spun in turn two. Mark Schulz would take second away and would go after his nephew Jacob on the restart. Jacob would hold off his uncle Mark to score his first career series win.
Fans of Lancaster Stock Cars are giving race fans the chance to enjoy one of the biggest nights of the season in style while also supporting Lancaster Motorplex competitors through a special suite raffle for the 38th US Open Weekend. Only 300 tickets will be sold for the raffle, with all proceeds going directly to the Drivers Point Fund. The grand prize winner will receive a suite for the U.S. Open featuring 10 tickets, along with food and drinks included for the evening. The first-place package also includes two Fans of Lancaster Stock Cars T-shirts. Beer may be purchased separately. A second-place prize will also be awarded, featuring a free camping spot for the weekend plus four tickets to the Saturday portion of US Open Weekend. Raffle tickets are available at two price points: 1 ticket for $50 and 3 (three) tickets for $100.
Stock car racing continues at Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday, July 11 for a night full of full-fender racing with the Super Stocks, Street Stocks, and the 4 Cylinders all in action. The night will also feature the Mighty TQ Midgets and the King Wolf Productions Big Wheels. Pit gates will open at 2pm, grandstands open at 4pm, racing will begin at 6pm.
